Health Concerns

Staying in a shelter or Residential Secure Space does not endanger one’s health if one maintains a number of basic rules of hygiene:

  • Clean hands with soap and water.
  • Do not bring in hard foods (sausage, bread, etc.).
  • Do not cook in the secure space.
  • Make sure to empty the waste can regularly.
  • People who take medications: Make sure you keep taking your usual medications.
  • Make sure to air out the room regularly.
  • From time to time, engage in some kind of aerobic activity.
  • Fear, anxiety, frustration, accelerated heart beat, feeling of stress and tension, lack of appetite, anger, insomnia or sleep disturbances.
  • It is important to remember that it is only natural to experience fright.
  • This may continue for a number of minutes or hours, even days. Usually, there is no need to go to a hospital for help.
  • If it doesn’t pass, please contact your family physician or the ERAN hotline (tel. 1201) for professional help.
  • Hospitals are normally set up to handle a large influx of patients around the clock.
  • In emergencies, specific instructions for directing the wounded will be given (when to go to the hospital, and when to Magen David Adom; which hospital to turn to; information about emergency medical centers that will open up, etc.).
