Special Needs

For a number of years, the Home Front Command has been developing joint assistance efforts aimed at people with special needs, among them the deaf:

  • Over the years, many instruction workshops have been held for the deaf.
  • People 16 yrs. of age and older, with a hearing loss of over 50 decibels, are eligible for a pager. Please contact the Association for the Deaf in Israel at tel. 03-7303355 or fax 03-7396419 for details.
  • Some of the broadcasts, whether live or recorded, include instructions in sign language.
  • The pager service includes messages and alerts vis-à-vis sirens. The pager hotline is 03-6106666
  • The authorities in charge weigh every emergency based on its specific elements, and responds accordingly. In any case, separating children from their parents is not recommended.
  • In every case, following self-protection instructions issued by the Home Front Command ensures safety.
  • Ahead of time, prepare the secure room and the route to it for maximal accessibility and comfort. If you use a guide dog, prepare the dog’s supplies as well. We recommend that the secure room be the room where you spend most of your time.
  • An additional recommendation is to ask neighbors for help, or to contact the welfare department of your municipality.
