It is critical to designate the secure room you must enter during an attack ahead of time. It is important to have such a room at home or in any other place in which you may find yourself.
a. The Residential Secure Space (Hebrew acronym MAMAD) or the Story-wide Secure Space (Hebrew acronym MAMAK) is your first choice as a secure space. This space is built with concrete walls that are best able to withstand explosive materials. Furthermore, it has secure windows and doors.
b. In homes that do not have either a MAMAD or a MAMAK, it is important to designate a Secure Room (a room in the interior of the structure) in the home based on the following criteria:
1. a room located as far away as possible from the direction of the threat of missile fire
2. a room with a minimum of external walls, windows and openings
Should the home have no such room, you may designate the stairwell as the secure room.
People who reside on the top floor of a building and have no MAMAD should enter the stairwell and descend one story to avoid a possible hit on the roof of the structure.
Please note: Please make sure that the secure room you choose can be reached in under one minute (the warning time given to the civilian population). Secure spaces that require you to leave the home (a communal shelter in a building, a public shelter in the street) are less effective against threats with a short warning span (such as Qassam rocket fire). Therefore, an interior location in the home should be designated in addition to gaining familiarity with external secure spaces.
