BAHAD 16 training base operates in a wide range of areas and is considered the leading facility of its kind in the world. BAHAD 16 invites you to join the family and find your place in one of the following exciting positions:

SAR NCO
The training course takes place at BAHAD 16, within the Zrifin base, and lasts for 12 weeks.
The trainees acquire a wide range of knowledge which assist them in performing their duties as Search and Rescue NCO's.
Principal subjects:
•    Rescue of persons trapped under rubble
•    Command of an SAR squad
•    Daytime and nighttime SAR exercises
•    Collaboration with canine teams and use of heavy engineering equipment
•    Treatment of nonconventional events
•    Instruction skills
•    Leadership skills
•    First aid skills
•    Educational skills
•    Wide-ranging educational activities
•    Physical training and marches.

Those who meet the requirements for graduation, are posted in command, instruction and training positions within the framework of the SAR school.
SAR NCO instructs others, as well as operates within the General Staff SAR alert force, and trains the regular and reserve HFC SAR personnel.
Worthy candidates can opt for officer training.
The IDF SAR School houses an "instant response" alert team, which consists of SAR officers and NCO's. These teams are activated for life-saving missions in Israel and abroad.
In recent years, these teams have participated in a large number of events, such as the Versailles' Hall disaster, the terror bombings in Kenya, events in Turkey, Greece, India, the Sinai, the train wrecks and much more.
The IDF SAR School works in close cooperation with comparable units throughout the world, including joint exercises and hosting foreign missions and instructional courses.

NBC defense NCO
The nonconventional threat is steadily becoming central in the war on the Israeli Home Front. The Home Front Command and its National School of Search, Rescue and Civil Defense invite you to enter this unfamiliar world, full of professional opportunities and allowing you to take part in operational readiness teams with the missions of saving human lives.
Within 12 intense weeks of the course, you will be trained in the NBC defense, specializing in nonconventional materials, defense and protection, as well as threat identification and neutralization. You will take part in joint exercises with SAR units and other personnel operating in events of this kind.
As part of your training, you will also specialize in rescue and response in building demolition events. You will enter the realm of instruction, one of the most professional and advanced in the IDF, on your way to becoming a first-class instructor.
Upon graduation, you will be posted as an instructor in various courses and exercises in the NBC defense field, working with regular, as well as reserve servicemen. As part of your personal development and advancement, you will command trainees in the NBC defense courses, or be posted at one of the HFC bases throughout the country as the NBC coordinator. Following certification, you will be able to continue developing your career at the Officer Training School and join the HFC family of officers.

Emergency population instructor ("malshakh")
This course takes place at the SAR School of the Home Front Command. The course lasts two and a half months and includes various theoretical and practical subjects in areas such as:
•    Civil defense
•    Preparations for emergency
•    Population behavior in emergency
•    Function under stress and assistance to the population in stressful situations
•    Methods of instruction
•    Practical experience in providing instruction
•    Child psychology and development
Upon graduation, you will be posted at one of the HFC bases throughout the country. As part of your job, you will provide instruction for various demographic groups: primary and secondary schools, special education classes, adult populations, as well as special need populations such as the deaf, the blind, the elderly, new immigrants etc. In emergency, you will participate, among other activities, in operating the HFC Information Call Center. Career advancement includes leadership and command within the course, development of instructional skills and candidacy for officer training.

SAR combat trooper
The job of an SAR trooper (in the Shahar battalion) is saving lives in a variety of ways, in different emergency situations. The trooper specializes in various rescue techniques, location of persons trapped under rubble and their rescue, operation of rescue equipment and providing assistance to casualties and trapped victims.
Rescue of persons trapped in multi-story buildings requires of the SAR trooper complete familiarity and well-practiced use of equipment intended for climbing, abseiling and rescue using ropes, harnesses and other gear.
In a nonconventional terrorist event where use is made of chemical warfare agents or hazardous materials, the trooper is protected by protective clothing of various types. This equipment protects him while operating in the epicenter of the event and rescuing casualties in the affected area.
As a combat trooper, the SAR man is trained in various infantry combat techniques. In addition, he participates in training and exercises alongside personnel from Israel Police, Magen David Adom ambulance service and firefighters. The training course includes familiarization with the enemy, his language and customs. It qualifies the trooper to take part in rapid response forces standing by to respond to events in Israel and abroad.
As part of a search and rescue team, the trooper adopts important values such as comradeship, professionalism and sense of mission, all with one objective in mind – saving lives.
